Set To Deploy SEA’s First Autel HiPower DCFC at JPO by DC Handal, 400kW @ RM1.50/kWh

September 18, 2024

Earlier this year, we covered the launch of Kempower DC fast chargers (DCFC) by DC Handal at Johor Premium Outlets (JPO). Now, with increasing demand, DC Handal has expanded its presence in JPO by introducing a new row of DCFCs featuring higher output capabilities right next to the existing 200 kW Kempower units.

With these new chargers operational, JPO has arguably claimed the title of the premier EV charging destination  down south, overtaking Skudai RnR. However, Skudai RnR still holds the record for the most charge points operators (CPOs) present at a single location.

The highlight of JPO’s new setup is the debut of Southeast Asia’s first Autel MaxiCharger DC HiPower units. These chargers are future-proofed and expandable, capable of delivering a maximum output of 640 kW. In their highest configuration, they can charge one EV at 480 kW or two vehicles simultaneously at 320 kW each, making them the fastest EV chargers in the world.

While these units are capable of 640 kW, DC Handal will initially configure them to operate at 400 kW, similar to the setup at WCE Taiping. This power level is more than sufficient for the bulk of EVs currently on Malaysian roads.

The Autel High Power cabinet provides power to 4 MaxiCharger dispensers. Each with two (2) air cooled output cables capable of 320kW each. These nozzles feature improved cable management, with the cables suspended higher for easier handling.

Due to grid limitations, the maximum output is capped at 400kW, with dynamic power allocation based on the number of vehicles plugged in and their respective states of charge (SoC).

For context, the highest-input capable EV in Malaysia, the Lotus Eletre, uses an 800-volt architecture and can achieve a peak charging rate of 350 kW. This allows it to charge from 10-80% in approximately 20 minutes, as per the manufacturer’s specifications.

As for the charging costs, access to the JPO EV charging stations detailed are priced at RM1.50 per kWh for the DCFC and RM0.90 for the 22kW AC units. All DC Handal chargers come with integrated payment terminals that support debit and credit cards, MyDebit, Google Pay, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and virtual payments via JomCharge and chargEV apps.
