There’s still a need for more EV charging stations as the government aims to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles. Now it appears there’s a new EV Charge Point Operator in town by the name of DC Handal and they are going big on DC charging. Their upcoming charging locations have been marked around the Klang Valley and there are a couple more located at Penang and Johor Bahru.

DC Handal deploys Kempower DC chargers with dynamic power-sharing

One of DC Handal’s locations in the Klang Valley is at Bamboo Hills located off Duke Highway where they have deployed a Kempower DC fast charger with dynamic power-sharing capabilities. The Bamboo Hill site has a total of four Kempower satellite units connected to a large cabinet. From the display, the satellite is able to push a maximum of 200kW which is similar to Gentari’s EV Charging Hub at Bangi Golf Club.

What’s even more interesting is that the EV charging location is equipped with a credit card terminal similar to what has been deployed at highway toll plazas for open payment system. This means you probably won’t need to download an app to use the charger and you can simply tap in and tap out to activate or stop charging. Contactless card payments offer greater convenience but we are curious to know if there will be a holding amount similar to petrol pumps.

Besides Bamboo Hills, the same operator has also deployed three Kempower satellite DC charging terminals at Wisma MCA, near KLCC as well as four Kempower satellite units at UOA Business Park at Subang. Once all three sites are turned on, DC Handal will be the largest operator of Kempower DC charging hubs in the country. Besides DC Handal and Gentari, ChargEV has also deployed Kempower’s DC fast charging solution with dynamic sharing at Berjaya Times Square. It can push up to 320kW but there are only two satellite terminals installed.

DC Handal EV charging locations at Bangsar South

Meanwhile, at Bangsar South, DC Handal has also marked two locations at The Vertical. One is located at the B1 carpark while the other is labelled as “Lazada“, located on the ground floor.

From what we have observed, the B1 charging location can charge four EVs simultaneously as it has two DC fast chargers with two nozzles each. From the wrapping, these appear to be Autel DC chargers similar to the ones deployed by ChargeSini at The Curve.

So far there are no details about the DC Handal’s charger availability and pricing details just yet. Looking at the individual sites that we have spotted so far, it looks like they are ready to go live at any moment. From the “DC” brand name, this could be Malaysia’s first and only DC-exclusive EV charging network similar to the UK’s Instavolt charging network that only offers DC charging between 50-150kW. Hopefully, they have plans to deploy more DC chargers at interstate routes, especially for the northern region and east coast in the Peninsular as well as along the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah and Sarawak.
