DC Handal Launches 1.2 MW Medini EV Forecourt EVCB

April 2, 2025

DC Handal officially launched its largest electric vehicle (EV) charging hub to date — the Medini EV Forecourt— located adjacent to the Mall of Medini near Legoland Malaysia in Iskandar Puteri, Johor.

This standalone EV charging hub, the first of its kind, features 28 Kempower satellite terminals, each equipped with CCS2 nozzles and capable of delivering up to 300 kW. With a combined charging capacity of 1.2 megawatts (MW), this marks the largest single CPO (Charge Point Operator) initiative in the region.

The forecourt is designed with five rows of chargers — four rows with six EV charging bays (EVCBs) each and one row with four. A dynamic load-balancing system ensures efficient power distribution when multiple EVs are plugged in, optimizing charging performance.

The facility’s covered charging islands are spacious enough to accommodate larger vehicles, such as electric buses, underscoring DC Handal’s commitment to supporting a diverse range of electric transportation options. Notably, one of its sister companies, Handal Indah, operates the fully electric Causeway Link buses in Johor Bahru.

Aligned with its sustainability goals, the Medini EV Forecourt integrates solar panels atop its high-roof structure, harnessing renewable energy to supplement grid power. The site is also prepared to accommodate a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) if required in the future.

According to DC Handal, this approach not only reduces the facility’s carbon footprint but also enhances energy efficiency, contributing to Malaysia’s broader green mobility initiatives.

For user convenience, DC Handal offers multiple payment options at all its locations, including the Medini EV Forecourt. Users can pay for charging sessions via credit and debit cards, as well as mobile payment platforms like Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Google Pay. Additionally, the chargers are accessible through the ChargEV and JomCharge apps.

Charging rates are competitively set at RM1.30/kWh, with no idle fees. However, users are encouraged to vacate the charging spot promptly after completing their session to ensure availability for others.

This charging hub’s activation could not have come at a better time, as festive travelers make their way back to their hometowns or holiday destinations nationwide, capitalising on the two-day 50% toll discount travel period.
