DC Handal Sets Up DCFC At Desaru Coast Riverside (180 kW) & Udini Square (50 kW)

December 15, 2023

The coastal holiday destination in Desaru, Johor has finally received its highest capacity DC fast charger (DCFC) operated by DC Handal. Located at the Desaru Coast Riverside now is the firm’s latest 180 kW DC charging hub.

Altogether, Desaru now sees a total of five charging stations present – 3 DC and 2 AC charging stations located at various spots within said beachfront district.

DC Handal’s latest Desaru Coast Riverside facility is furnished with a 180 kW Kempower DC charger primed with two CCS guns. This unit is capable of serving two (2) EV charging bays simultaneously.

Meanwhile adding on to its DC charging network in Penang, an all new DCFC station has also been set up at Udini Square Gelugor. This facility is powered by a BMW Auto Bavaria branded 50 kW Kempower Dynamic DC unit is also capable of serving two (2) EVs at any one time, although the power delivery would be split rendering to almost an AC like charging performance. However, according to our insider information this 50 kW output is temporary and 200 kW would be made available soon.

Based on details we’ve gathered, both these charging bays are housed away from other public vehicle parking bays. In fact, its isolation stems from the latest guidelines set by the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (FRDM).

Furthermore, we’ve also learned that the Kempower charging unit is similar to that fielded by DC Handal at its new WCE Assam Jawa Toll Plaza station. This unit is capable of outputting up to 200 kW of output, but is throttled down to accommodate Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) grid availability.

This DC Handal Kempower DCFC also features dynamic output modulation based on the EV’s state of charge (SOC). EVs plugged in with lower SOCs will receive more input, so a quick top-up would suffice to get you to the next charging location and indirectly prevent charging bay hogging.

The charging rate at this DCFC station in Desaru is set at RM1.50/kWh while Udini Square is RM1.30/kWh. Users can make payment by debit or credit card, Google Pay, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, as well as through both the JomCharge and chargEV apps.
